Is it bad for a pool to overflow?

If you get more than five inches of rain in an hour, or if your pool wasn’t properly designed with sufficient overflows, then your pool may overflow, which can put you at risk of water getting inside of your home and causing serious damage. As your pool fills with water, it may overflow into your yard.

What happens if you overfill your pool?

The main issue that you will have if your swimming pool has too much water in it is the ability for the skimmer to keep the surface of your water clear from floating leaves, grass and bugs. This will only occur if the water levels have risen so much that the entire skimmer beneath water.

How do I keep my pool from overflowing?

  1. Siphon the water to lower the levels. Do be aware of where you’ll put the water.
  2. Use your pump drain. Some pumps have drain spigots, and using this is much easier than siphoning.

Why do pools not overflow when it rains?

The pool will only overflow by the amount of rain in excess of the amount of rain needed to fill the pool to the top. So if your pool is the normal 3” below the top, the rain would need to exceed 3” before any additional rain would be available to overflow onto the deck.

Should I run my pool pump when it rains?

How do I get water out of my inground pool lines?

Preparation to blow out the lines:

  1. Lower the water level 4-12″ below skimmer, depending on cover type.
  2. Remove filter, pump and heater drain plugs to drain water, replace loosely.
  3. Drain, hand pump or scoop water out of skimmers until almost empty.
  4. Set multiport valve to Recirculate, or Filter position for slide valves.

Can water level be too high in pool?

If the water level is too high the debris floating next to the opening may pass by without being pulled into the skimmer. However if the water level is too low it may cause the skimmer to suck air into the system. If this happens you may run the risk of burning up your pool pumps motor.
