To correct a Form W-2 you have already submitted, file a Form W-2c with a separate Form W-3c for each year needing correction. File a Form W-3c whenever you file a Form W-2c, even if you are only filing a Form W-2c to correct an employee’s name or Social Security number (SSN).
Can I change the address on my W-2?
Yes, but don’t worry if your mailing address on your W-2 form is wrong or has since changed; this won’t affect your taxes. Just make sure you’ve entered your current mailing address in the Personal Info section of TurboTax.
Do you have to correct an address on a W-2?
If you filed a Form W-2 with the SSA that reported an incorrect address for the employee, but all other information on the Form W-2 was correct, do not file Form W-2c with the SSA merely to correct the address. However, if the address was incorrect on the Form W-2 furnished to the employee, you must do one of the following.
Why does my employer give me an incorrect W-2?
It’s possible that your employer is trying to hide W-2 income from the IRS, particularly if they’ve been having financial difficulties. The company must pay half your Social Security and Medicare taxes based on your earnings, so the less you earn, the less they must pay in these payroll taxes. 1
How to contact the IRS for form W2?
Call the IRS toll free at 800-829-1040 or make an appointment to visit an IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center (TAC). The IRS will send your employer a letter requesting that they furnish you a corrected Form W-2 within ten days.
How do I get a duplicate W2 when I move?
You will need to contact each of your former employers and ask them to send you a duplicate W-2 at your new address, or arrange to obtain a duplicate form by some other means, such as electronic delivery or fax. You should have notified your former employer (s) of your new address when you moved.
