To qualify for the home office deduction, you must use part of your home “regularly and exclusively” for business. Your office doesn’t need to be in a separate room, but it has to be in an area of your home where you don’t do anything else.

You can portion off a section of a room that is used only for your business. You must deduct only the portion of your home that is used for business. So if your home office takes up half the living room, you can only deduct half the living room. The IRS allows two options for the home office deduction.
