It’s often easier for undocumented immigrants to avoid income taxes. After all, payments are often in cash. But it is possible to pay income taxes, even without a Social Security number. You can obtain an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) from the IRS to file your taxes.

IRS Form 1040-X is filed by taxpayers who need to amend their tax returns. The form must be filed within three years after the original return was filed or within two years after the tax was paid, whichever is later. Anyone who files a 1040-X form may also need to amend their state tax return.
