Can I travel and work from home?

Why, yes — yes, you can. Working from home and working remotely have given people the freedom to gain those long hours spent commuting back into their lives.

Is my employer responsible for my travel to and from work?

Under the existing legislation, an employer’s duties to ensure the health, safety and welfare of its employees only extend to the workplace or where an employee is acting in the course of their employment. With very limited exceptions, that does not include risks they may face while travelling to and from work.

When is travel away from home work time?

Travel away from home community. Travel that keeps an employee away from home overnight is travel away from home. Travel away from home is clearly worktime when it cuts across the employee’s workday. The employee is simply substituting travel for other duties.
