As long as the meal is not considered lavish or extravagant and the expense is included in the employee’s income, the employer can deduct all the cost. Lodging or housing may be provided to an employee as a requirement of employment.
Are meal allowances taxable income?
The allowances for meals and incidentals are exempt from payroll tax up to the respective ATO limits for these payments.

Do you have to include cash meal allowance in gross income?
G also excludes from gross income the value of the meals and lodging provided by the employer. Sec. 119 applies to meals provided by an employer in kind. It does not apply to a cash meal allowance. An employee must include a cash meal allowance in gross income to the extent that such an allowance is compensation.

How does tax treatment of employer provided meals work?
