Are bounced check fees deductible?

The answer is yes: overdraft fees are deductible for a business, and they are often considered operating expenses. Other bank fees are deductible, too. However, these fees have to be associated with your business bank accounts — not a personal bank account. Overdraft fees should be a rare occurrence.

Are bank service fees tax-deductible?

Bank fees. Having separate bank accounts and credit cards for your business is always a good idea. If your bank or credit card company charges annual or monthly service charges, transfer fees, or overdraft fees, these are deductible. You cannot deduct fees related to your personal bank accounts or credit cards.

What happens if my tax check bounces?

For checks less than $25, you will get a penalty for the amount of the check. So if your $20 check bounced, you’ll now owe the IRS $40. For checks between $25 and $1,250: a flat penalty of $25. For checks of $1,250 or more: a penalty of 2% of the amount of the check.

Bank charges / fees on a business bank account are deductible. Read IRS Publication 334 under “other expenses you can deduct”. Pud 535 does not address bank fees.
